One way of determining the value that Social Media brings to your business is to know what a fan or follower is worth.

Washing a sample of your database that contact you via Social channels against those who don’t will give you some good insight.

As a general rule (and in my experience), customers who contact you via Twitter or Facebook usually have a higher spend than those who don’t. They may also save you money as they prefer self-service methods (such as online ordering and customer care)
